My 20-month-old Bug is really into music – particularly dancing around to tunes – so I am constantly on the lookout for music that I not only tolerate but enjoy, as I hit the replay button again and again. I just learned about Alastair Moock, who’s music fits nicely into the genre of interesting and fun songs that both kids and adults can enjoy.
So Very Vienna readers can enter into an exclusive giveaway for Alastair’s new CD and two tickets to his upcoming show at the Vienna music venue, Jammin Java. Just post a comment below (include your email address when you create the comment).
Here’s why you should enter the contest:
Alastair brings a style of “family roots music” where songs feature many voices all having a good ‘ole time together. With a raspy voice and a hand on the guitar or banjo, Alastair explores topics that are meaningful to children, but also adults. For instance: while we were stuck in DC traffic driving to the House of Sweden recently, Drew and I laughed at loud at the lyrics one of his latest songs, “Three Like Me”, where a little kid wonders why people are yelling at him for things like putting his dad’s wallet in the toilet and setting off the car alarm. Or, if you want a literary challenge, Alastair sings the ABCs backwards along with a mix of traditional nursery rhymes in “CBAs and A Twinkle Baa”. It’s good fun.
Alastair Moock hails from the Boston area, which has lots of cool indie and folk-inspired music (this is where I first heard of Laurie Berkner, another family-music style kids artist). In fact, Alastair takes his cue from the likes of Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie of years past. He’s headed down south to our area to play at Jammin Java on Saturday, December 3 at 10:30am. Tickets are $10 for everyone over one year old. But leave a comment below for a chance at two free tickets and his new CD, These Are My Friends!
*Be sure to include your email address when you create your comment so you can be contacted in the event you win. The winner will be announced Monday, November 28. The CD will be mailed to the winner and tickets held at the Jammin Java door the day of the show. And if you don’t win, I hope so see you at Alastair’s show anyway – we will be the one’s dancing!
Just moved to the area and have been wanting to check out Jammin Java!
